1st Session—35th Parliament

Lloyd Axworthy (Minister of Employment and Immigration) and Prime Minister Jean Chrétien respond to allegations, raised by Lucien Bouchard (the leader of the Official Opposition), that the federal government’s employment training programs are encroaching on provincial jurisdiction. Later, Mr. Chrétien responds to calls for the establishment of criteria for future Canadian peacekeeping missions. Paul Martin (Minister of Finance) is asked about the federal debt and possible cuts to social programs.
