1st Session—35th Parliament

Ahead of the October 30, 1995, Quebec referendum on sovereignty, Lucien Bouchard (the leader of the Official Opposition) presses Prime Minister Jean Chrétien on Quebec’s status as a distinct society and the lessons learned from the failed Meech Lake and Charlottetown accords. Mr. Chrétien also faces questions about the roles of Elections Canada and the Council for Canadian Unity in the upcoming referendum. Meanwhile, Sergio Marchi (Minister of Citizenship and Immigration) responds to inquiries about expedited citizenship applications in Quebec and David M. Collenette (Minister of National Defence) is asked about the timing of the Somalia inquiry.
