NDP foreign affairs critic Hélène Laverdière, NDP international trade critic Brian Masse and Liberal leader Bob Rae reacted to the new perimeter security agreement that was announced today between Canada and the United States. Prime Minister Stephen Harper and President Barack Obama unveiled details of the Beyond the Border initiative in Washington. NDP Canadian Wheat Board critic Pat Martin, Liberal deputy leader Ralph Goodale, Liberal agriculture critic Frank Valeriote, Liberal Senator James Cowan, and Liberal leader Bob Rae commented on the decision by a federal court judge regarding the government's bill to end the Canadian Wheat Board's monopoly. Judge Douglas Campbell has ruled that Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz breached the Canadian Wheat Board Act when he introduced Bill C-18 without holding a plebiscite among Western grain producers. The Conservatives have said that they will appeal the decision. Interim NDP leader Nycole Turmel spoke to reporters about her letter calling for the federal government to send in the military to help deliver supplies to the First Nation community of Attawapiskat.
