Attorney General of Canada, et al. v. Pritpal Singh Mavi, et al. - December 9, 2010 Case #33520 Ottawa The eight respondents are asking the Ontario government to forgive their sponsorship debts. Their sponsored relatives all received social assistance from Ontario during their sponsorship periods. Sponsors must repay any social assistance received by a sponsored relative during the sponsorship period. The government argues that sponsorship debts must be repaid, regardless of individual circumstances.
