Jean-Marc Richard c. Time Inc., et al.
Jean-Marc Richard v. Time Inc., et al. - January 18, 2011 Case #33554 This appeal deals with consumer protection issues. In 1999, Richard received sweepstake documents that led him to believe that he had won over $830,000US. When he tried to claim his prize, Time said the documents were just an invitation to take part in the sweepstake. Richard claims that Time Inc. had misleading advertising, had breached contractual obligations, and violated the Consumer Protection Act. The Superior Court of Québec ordered Time to pay Richard $101,000 in damages, but this decision was later reversed.
