Information and Privacy Commissioner v. Alberta Teachers’ Association

Information and Privacy Commissioner v. Alberta Teachers’ Association – February 16, 2011
Case #33620

A group of individuals complained that the Alberta Teachers’ Association had disclosed personal information about them in its publication “ATA News”. The Alberta courts quashed the adjudicator`s decision that had ruled in favour of the individuals. The courts ruled the privacy commissioner had lost jurisdiction for not finishing the investigation within the statutorily imposed time limit, as stated in the Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA).
