Jean-Philippe Mailhot v. Her Majesty the Queen ( March 19, 2013) Case # 34881 The appellant was convicted of second degree murder. At trial, he had testified that his wife, who had been suicidal, had slit her own throat in his presence. In response to this and while in a dissociative state, he had stabbed her 33 more times to ease her suffering. A jury convicted the appellant of second-degree murder. The Court of Appeal dismissed the appeal.
