Ontario Energy Board v. Ontario Power Generation Inc., et al.
Case # 35506 Ontario Energy Board v. Ontario Power Generation Inc., et al. (December 3, 2014) Ontario Power Generation inc. (opg) is the province’s largest electricity generator. In May 2010 the OPG filed an application with the Ontario Energy Board seeking approval to have electricity rates fixed for the 2011 year. The Ontario Energy Board (OEB) determined that OPG’s staffing levels and employment costs were too high. As a result of the employment costs the OEB denied the application for fixed rates. The OPG had already negotiated staffing levels and salaries with its unionized workforce and could not reduce costs. The court of appeal ruled that the OEB’s denial was unjustified.
