Supreme Court Hearings - Michael Alan Phillips v. The Queen


The court hears arguments in case #29609, Michael Alan Phillips v. The Queen, on October 17, 2003.

Michael Alan Phillips is appealing his convictions for attempted murder and weapons offences, which the Alberta Court of Appeal upheld. He maintains that he did not receive a fair trial.

Lawyer Kevin Moore presents arguments on behalf of Michael Alan Phillips. Later, Chief Justice Beverley McLachlin delivers the court’s verdict, in favor of The Queen, orally from the bench.

Also on the program, a welcoming ceremony is held at the Supreme Court of Canada in honour of Justice Morris J. Fish on October 15, 2003. Chief Justice Beverley McLachlin makes opening remarks and describes Justice Fish’s work and contributions. Federal Justice Minister Martin Cauchon is among the attendees.
