After completing his commerce studies, Mr Léonard worked as a professor at various Quebec universities before taking a chance on politics. He was first elected in 1976 as Parti Québécois MNA for the riding of Laurentides–Labelle, Que. In the course of his career, he held various ministerial positions in several PQ governments.
