CRTC Hearing February 14, 2013 - Part 1

Sorry but Bell is holding back A LOT of information about consumers preferred choice 3 year contracts compared to 1 and 2 years. I'm sure Bell remembers when they offered 1,2, and 3, year contracts for a $500 no contract device, 1 year term price was $450, 2 year term price was $400, and 3 year term price was $0. You tell me why consumers picked 3 year contracts and not 1 and 2. It's not because consumers didn't want a shorter term, it's because 1 and 2 year term prices are unequal in comparison to 3 which is very deceiving by Bell.

listen to Sasktel. I used to live there, and for the amount of people living over a big area, it has the best telecom systems in Canada. The CRTC should not waste time figuring out pricing structures, but rather on getting the best services everywhere. They should be setting infrastructure rules so the Big telecom will be forced to share it with smaller companies who will actually expand and upgrade it. Only then will then will there be true competition, which will eliminate all this pricing BS.

I think if people bought phones they could afford and not get caught in these long term contracts, alot of the problems with these companies would go away. Bad service ,complain, well if you don't like us, pay the ETF, which you can't ,otherwise you wouldn't have signed the long term contract. I'd go so far as to say the price of the ridiculously high profit margin phones would drop. As Jobs said about his products" I want 100% profit on each item sold and the seller tacks his profit on. So roughly a 600$ phone could be had for a lot less. But the customers have to force the issue, and signing 3 yr contracts, is not going to do it. If people just paid for monthly billing and did this for one year maybe even 6 months, the customer would have the power of bargaining back. The Telcos want long term contract. If people paid what the telcos demanded on a high priced phone without signing a 3 yr contact, they would just raise the price until the consumer couldn't pay without a long term contract. These companies are beholding to shareholders and they would like long term projections for profits.
