Status o f Women - November 2012
I find this quite fascinating since Sharon Woodburne was one of my harassers in 2000, although I guess this would be considered 'normal' harassment in the workplace. Just normal everyday bullying. I do have proof of this so I am not writing anything libellous.
Secondly, I don't think I have heard any female members of the RCMP complaining about the number of female commissioned officers and the number of females being recruited. They are complaining about the harassment and, quite frankly, sexual assaults. Why would we want to recruit more females into an unsafe work environment?
Thirdly, women will not complain about sexual harassment within the RCMP to the RCMP because the women are again victimized because they are complainers and whistleblowers. If you have a close look at the 'new' proposed RCMP policy with regard to reporting sexual harassment, you will see that there is no outside agency for the complainers to go to. The 'new' , proposed policy is no different than what we have already had. You just keep on going to different supervisors in an effort to have your complaints heard and no one will deal with it. And the complainer's life just becomes more miserable because now all of their bosses are against them and trying to make them out to be the problem child.
As an example, what will happen to a whistleblower who complains about one of Comm. Paulsen's friends? This is a true story and when she tried to complain about her supervisor (Paulsen's friend), she was told by the harassment unit supervisor that there was nothing he could do to help her. She reacted by going on long term medical leave. Basically, if you look at the 'new' solutions for reporting sexual harassment in the RCMP, all you will find is the same old, same old, which allows senior NCO's and senior managers to sexually exploit and sexually assault the female members without repercussions. Oh, and if you're wondering about those stats that say the number of female Mounties reporting sexual misconduct really isn't that big? It's because we're too afraid to complain about it. If you ever want to hear the real story, feel free to join me for one of my monthly, female mountie, support group meetings.
