Peter Milliken’s Portrait Unveiling – 8:30 pm ET / 5:30 pm PT
As the longest-serving Speaker in Canada’s House of Commons at 3,776 days, Peter Milliken had his portrait, by artist Paul Wyse, unveiled on May 9 in Ottawa.
From May 10, former Deputy Prime Minister Sheila Copps and award-winning journalist Andrew Coyne engage in a provocative debate on the theme Power Corrupts Canadian Prime Ministers.
House of Commons Citizenship and Immigration Committee – 4 pm ET / 1 pm PT
Watch the House of Commons committee hearing from May 7 where MPs heard from academics and representatives of the European Union as they continued their review of Bill C-31, the government's refugee reform legislation.
On May 10, representatives from the Ultimate Fighting Championship testified as part of committee's study of Bill S-209, which would update the definition of prize fighting sports in the Criminal Code to include mixed martial arts bouts. The witnesses discussed their support of the bill and spoke about the safety regulations involved in the fastest growing sport in North America.
Committee members began their study of the environmental provisions of the budget implementation bill (C-38) on May 10 and heard from senior government officials from Natural Resources, Fisheries and Oceans, Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development, the Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency and Environment Canada. They discussed the technical aspects of the environmental policy changes through the budget’s omnibus bill.

See the Queen of England officially open the Parliament of the United Kingdom with the Speech from the Throne from May 9. The speech is followed by the Humble Address and debate in the House of Commons.
