RCMP Commissioner Bob Paulson was born and raised in the community of Lachute, Quebec.
Paulson joined the military in 1977 and earned his wings as a fighter pilot and instructor at 15 Wing Moose Jaw. After one year at Simon Fraser University, Paulson decided to join the RCMP and his first assignment was in Chilliwack, B.C. Within nine months, Paulson was selected for plainclothes duty and his skills became so apparent that he was quickly transferred to the regional Major Crime Section.
As a major case manager in Vancouver, Paulson led several successful investigations against the Hells Angels and the then-upstart United Nations Gang. In 2008, Paulson was promoted to Assistant Commissioner responsible for National Security Criminal Investigations, and in 2011 was appointed as Commissioner of Canada's national police service, the RCMP.
