Beyond Politics

Liberal MP Brian Murphy was born and raised in Moncton, New Brunswick, into a family with a long history of public service. Brian’s uncle, Henry, was the Liberal MP for Westmoreland. His cousin, Michael, was Health Minister in the Graham government, and his own grandfather was city alderman.

Brian’s first election was for Moncton city council in 1992, where he was successful in unseating a long term incumbent. Brian was to repeat his success as underdog six years later, when he ran for mayor and defeated the three term incumbent. In 2006, Brian was recruited by Paul Martin to run for the seat vacated by the retirement of Claudette Bradshaw. Brian won and has been the MP ever since. Father to three girls, Maeve, Bronwyn and Megan, and husband to Jacqueline, Brian talks to Catherine Clark about his very busy life Beyond Politics.
