NDP MP Charmaine Borg is a proud member of the 22-32 Under, the group of 22 newly elected MPs who are under the age of 32, and one of five McGill students who were part of the NDP's crushing victory in Quebec in the 2011 election.
Charmaine is but one of 7 children in the Borg family from Keswick, a small community on the shores of Lake Simcoe in central Ontario. Borg was an active and ambitious teen, starting a theatre group for disabled children when she was only 15.
After finishing high school, Charmaine took a year off and went to Montreal to work on Tom Mulcair's 2008 election campaign and that of Montreal mayoral candidate Richard Bergeron. Borg was studying political science and Latin American studies when she was approached to run for the NDP in the riding of Terrebone-Blainville, a Montreal-area suburban riding held by the Bloc Québécois since 1993. Charmaine Borg talks to Catherine Clark about her life Beyond Politics.
