Beyond Politics

Catherine Clark spoke to Conservative MP Chris Alexander, about his life Beyond Politics.
Conservative MP Chris Alexander grew up in Toronto in a home where public service and political engagement was encouraged and esteemed. After attending McGill Chris took the foreign service exam and learned he was accepted while he was in the middle of his studies at Oxford. Chris's first posting was at the Canadian Embassy in Moscow just as Boris Yeltsin was trying to maintain power in the newly formed Russian Federation. At the age of 34, Chris became Canada's first resident Ambassador in Kabul and it was while he was in Afghanistan that he met Hedvig, a Danish Army Captain who was soon to become his wife. In 2009 Chris, Hedvig and newly born daughter Selma left Afghanistan for Canada. In 2011, Chris was elected as the Conservative MP for the Toronto area riding of Ajax Pickering.
