Conservative MP Ed Holder spoke to Catherine Clark about his life Beyond Politics.
Ed Holder may be the only MP to have a town named after his family. Holderville, New Brunswick along the Saint John River, just north of Saint John, is where Ed's family is from. Even though Ed was born in Toronto, he maintains strong connections.
Ed's family moved from Holderville to Toronto because the job prospects were better. They moved again to California for the same reasons a few years later. His mother fought off a bout with cancer but the subsequent medical expenses forced the family to reconsider their move. So when Ed was all of 15 they headed back to Toronto.
Ed attended the University of Western Ontario and launched a successful insurance career. Ed first ran in 1993 for the Progressive Conservatives under Kim Campbell and didn't run again until 2008. In between those years, Ed volunteered and worked on several charity and community organizations in the London area. Ed defeated a longtime Liberal incumbent to win the seat of London West in 2008 and he repeated his success last May.
