Conservative MP Greg Rickford is the eldest of 8 children born in a tight-knit family in Paris, Ontario. Greg played a lot of sports including hockey and baseball until an accident on an ATV sent him to hospital and laid him up for a number of months. Rickford took much inspiration from his grandparents and pursued the same career as that of his grandmother, nursing. It was a profession that allowed him to practice across the United States and Canada including remote communities in the Arctic. Rickford also used his education to help pay for his pursuit of greater education earning an MBA from Laval and a Law degree from McGill. It was while articling in Kenora that Greg's passion for Northwestern Ontario was rekindled, and compelled Greg to settle there. In 2008, Greg decided to run for public office and defeated the incumbent Liberal by over 6,000 votes. Catherine Clark spoke to Greg Rickford about his life Beyond Politics.
