NDP MP Jamie Nicholls came to Ottawa via the Orange wave that swept the county in the 2010 election. Jamie grew up St. Lazare, now a bedroom community of Montreal, but at the time, not quite on the radar of urban dwellers seeking to escape the confines of the city. Jamie attended the University of Victoria where he earned a degree in Visual Arts and later an MA in Landscape Architecture. He was in the middle of completing his PhD in Landscape Architecture at McGill when the election was called. Jamie opted to put his studies on hold in order to run for office. Jamie is married to Nuray Uysal Nicholls, a lawyer he met while on a teaching assignment in Turkey. They have one daughter Pera.
