Beyond Politics

Liberal MP Kevin Lamoureux talks to Catherine Clark about his life Beyond Politics.

Kevin Lamoureux took to politics at a young age and it was likely when Trudeaumania swept the country in 1968, when Kevin was only 6, that he became a Liberal.

Watching Trudeau stickhandle his way around the repatriation of the constitution in 1982 had Kevin seriously thinking about becoming a candidate. Four years later, with Sharon Carstairs leading the provincial wing in Manitoba, Kevin ran but lost. Two years later he was more determined than ever to win. He did, and except for four years between 1999-2003 spent the next 22 years as the MLA for Inkster.

Lamoureux hasn't given up his work habits since coming to Ottawa. He continues to set aside four hours every Saturday to meet his constituents at the local McDonald's. Married to his childhood sweetheart, Cathy, they have two children together. Daughter Cindy shares her father's passion for politics and is currently working on Parliament Hill.
