Beyond Politics

Conservative MP Mark Adler spoke to Catherine Clark about his life Beyond Politics.

Mark Adler is one of three children who grew up in a traditional Jewish home in Toronto. His father was a businessman who owned a shoe store and was careful to urge Mark to always conduct himself as a mensch. Mark's father's own childhood was less than idyllic, having grown up in war torn Poland and as a Jew, saw his family and friends segregated into ghettoes and eventually rounded up by Nazis and sent off to Auschwitz. Mark's father was the only member of his family to survive the death camp. Yet for all of that, Mark grew up as a well adjusted and ambitious child. He earned a BA at the University of Toronto and an MA in Public Administration from Carleton. Mark worked as a trade representative for the Ontario government in Boston and followed that up with an appointment as Director of Corporate Affairs at the Canadian Institute of International Affairs. In 2003, Mark founded the Economic Club of Canada, a speaker's forum for high profile personalities from business, sports and politics.
In 2011 Mark was elected as the MP for York Centre. Mark and his wife Alison are the parents to twins Ethan and Isabelle.
