NDP Matthew Kellway grew up in Kingston, Ontario where his parents were both high school teachers. Kellway became politically active when he joined the NDP while in university studying architecture. He changed disciplines and completed his master's degree in Industrial Relations at the University of Glasgow where he met his future wife Donna. Kellway served as president of the Beaches-East York Riding Association for three terms before putting up his own name for candidacy. In 2011, Kellway was elected as the MP for the Toronto-area riding.
