Beyond Politics

Conservative Senator Mike Duffy is best known for the decades he spent reporting on national and international events for, first the CBC, and later for CTV. Born in Charlottetown, PEI, Duffy began covering Parliament for CBC Radio in 1974 and three years later moved to television working on CBC's flagship show The National. In 1988, Duffy left the CBC to work for CTV where he hosted the Sunday news magazine Sunday Edition and later Countdown With Mike Duffy and Mike Duffy Live. As a broadcaster earned several awards including an ACTRA for his reporting on the attack on the Turkish Embassy in Ottawa in 1985. Duffy was inducted into the Canadian Association of Broadcasters Hall of Fame in 1994. Prime Minister Stephen Harper named Duffy to the Senate in 2008.
