Conservative MP Rob Merrifield grew up on the family farm in Whitecourt, Alberta. Rob took over the farm when he was a young man and followed his father's footsteps by not only operating the farm but becoming active on school and hospital boards and sitting on various agricultural industry committees. Before being elected in 2000 under the Canadian Alliance banner, Rob sought the provincial nomination for the PC candidate in his riding but lost. Rob and his wife, Brenda continue to live on the family farm, but son Chad is now running the operation. Their second son Scott works as a professional forester. Rob is also an avid amateur power parachute flyer. He spoke to Catherine Clark about his life Beyond Politics.
