NDP MP Ryan Cleary is best known to his constituents in St. John's South - Mount Pearl as being a brave, hard- nosed journalist, first as a reporter with The Telegram and later as an editor with The Independent. Cleary also hosted Nightline a provincial wide open line radio show on VOCM. Cleary was always probing, blunt and never-shied away from an assignment. His hard work was rewarded with a number of awards including twice being a finalist for the coveted Michener Awards. In the 2008 election, Cleary lost to the incumbent Liberal Siobhan Coady by less than a thousand votes. This time around, Cleary won with a plurality of over 7,000. A proud father of two young boys, one's a hockey player, the other an aspiring actor, Cleary is also a celebrating his recent purchase of a brightly coloured clapboard house in an old St. John's neighbourhood. Catherine Clark recently visited Ryan Cleary in his riding on Beyond Politics.
