Liberal MP Ted Hsu was born in Oklahoma where his father worked in the oil patch as a chemical engineer. Six months later Ted was bundled up and riding in the back seat of his parents' car as they arrived in KIngston where his dad taken a job as a professor at Queen's. Ted gravitated to the sciences when he was a child, fascinated by the stars and planets in the sky and it led him to Princeton where he earned a doctorate in Physics. Unable to find work in his field, Ted moved to finance and took a job with Morgan Stanley where he excelled with postings in Paris, Philadelphia and eventually Tokyo where he met Tara Sharkey, who eventually became his wife. When Tara became pregnant with daughter Ella, they moved back to California, where Tara pursued a graduate degree and Ted stayed home to look after their daughter. After three years they packed up and moved to Kingston to be closer to Ted's family. Following the announcement by the Speaker of the House, Peter Milliken, that he would not be running in the 2011 election, Ted ran for the Liberal nomination in Kingston and The Islands. He won and in 2011 took the riding by over 2,000 votes.
