BALANCING THE BOARDS
Only 14 per cent of Canada’s corporate directorships are held by women. Liberal Senator Céline Hervieux-Payette has introduced a rare private member’s bill (S-206) that would legislate 20 to 40 per cent of board positions to be reserved for women. On the Bright Side finds out why Canadians are looking across the pond to Norway, where a gender parity law introduced earlier this year is already making a difference.

We spend time with New Democrat MP Peter Julian in his Burnaby-New Westminster riding, learning about his desire to reduce urban noise pollution and his interest in global affairs.

DIABETES AWARENESS
Aboriginals in Canada have a much higher rate of diabetes than other Canadians. Glen McInnis spends time with Winnipeg MP Rod Bruinooge, a Métis politician with a long family history of diabetes. Earlier this year, he lost 60 pounds in five months by switching to a traditional aboriginal diet focused on lean meats, whole grains, and legumes. Glen also checks in with the Diabetic Risk Assessment Clinic set up on Parliament Hill this week to raise awareness.

SHOWTIME AT RIDEAU HALL
Governor General David Johnston and his wife Sharon host their first musical concert as Canada’s vice-regal couple – a showcase for emerging musicians in tribute to Glenn Gould.

SINGING FOR THEIR SUPPER
The Parliamentary Spouses Association hosts its 10th annual fundraising holiday concert in support of the Military Families Fund. The concert features the singing sensations MP5 (a Conservative group made up of Transport Minister Chuck Strahl, Mark Warawa, Kevin Sorensen, Randy Kamp, and Ed Fast).
