Campaign Politics

Calgary Centre-North

The riding of Calgary Centre-North has been in campaign mode since last November when Jim Prentice, the former environment minister, announced his resignation and a return to the private sector. Michelle Rempel, director of the University of Calgary’s institutional programs division, is hoping to keep the riding Tory blue.

In January, Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff handpicked Stephen Randall, a University of Calgary political science professor, as the party’s candidate. Paul Vargis, a writer and environmental activist, is running for the NDP. The Green party’s candidate is Heather McIntosh, a program director for democratic development with the Sheldon Chumir Foundation.

CPAC’s Mark Miller recently visited the riding and prepared this report.
