London West
London West is a typical Ontario suburb. The population is working-age, affluent and well-educated. Conservative Ed Holder is the incumbent. He’s a well-known businessman who’s represented the riding since 2008. The Liberals have put up former party president Doug Ferguson, a lawyer and law professor at the University of Western Ontario. What began as a two-way ideological race between the two candidates quickly morphed into something else. Just days after the writ dropped, layoffs at a local aircraft manufacturer turned “smart manufacturing jobs” into a hot button issue. The NDP’s Peter Ferguson is betting on his party’s policies of pension and health care reform to resonate with voters here. The Green Party’s Brad Corbett has some novel ideas around family law. And The United Party of Canada represented by its co-founder Rod Morley, is hoping to carve out a bit of the old progressive conservative vote in London West.
CPAC’s Karen Soloman has the details from London, Ontario.
