Campaign Politics

Mississauga-Erindale

When Conservative incumbent Bob Dechert won against Liberal Omar Alghabra in Mississauga-Erindale in 2008 by just 397 votes, it was viewed as a major breakthrough for the Conservative Party into what has traditionally been a Liberal-dominated Greater Toronto Area. The two are fighting for the title of MP again, both running on their parliamentary track records. Dechert is boasting over $200 million of federal investment into infrastructure in the riding since 2008. Alghabra is positioning himself as a man of the people, and he’s using social media to expand that influence. The NDP’s Michelle Bilek came into the campaign late after the original nominee defected to support Dechert. John Fraser is a Green party candidate with an unusually high profile; the former director of education has a high school named after him in the riding.

CPAC’s Karen Soloman filed this report from Mississauga.
