Campaign Politics

Saanich-Gulf Islands

The race in the riding of Saanich-Gulf Islands is capturing the imagination of voters across the country not only because Green Party Leader Elizabeth May is running here, but because the other major parties have deep roots here. Gary Lunn, the Minister of Sport has held the seat since 1997 when he first won it under Preston Manning’s Reform Party. The NDP, who last won the seat in 1988 with Lynn Hunter, have newcomer Edith Loring-Kuhanga hoping to bring it back into the fold. The Liberals, who have always done well here, are represented by prominent environmentalist Renée Hetherington. The race promises to be a tight, close fight and it may be late in the morning of May 3rd before a winner is declared.

CPAC’s Ed Watson has the story from Saanich, B.C.
