Simcoe-Grey

In April 2010, the MP for Simcoe-Grey was forced to resign from cabinet and leave the Conservative Party caucus for unspecified allegations into her conduct. Helena Guergis, then a cabinet minister in Stephen Harper’s cabinet, claimed that she was innocent and demanded to know the nature of those allegations. It wasn’t until the 2011 federal election was in its third week that Ms. Guergis discovered what those allegations were and that they were based on spurious evidence at best. How these revelations will be taken by the voting population of Simcoe Grey will go a long way to determine who will win this central Ontario riding. Guergis is running as a Conservative independent. Her main competitor is Conservative Kellie Leitch, a paediatric orthopaedic surgeon. The Liberals believe that they have a winner with businessman Alex Smardenka. Katy Austin is running for the NDP and the Green Party candidate is 22 year old, Creemore native, Jace Metheral. The Canadian Action Party is represented by Gord Cochrane and Peter Vander Zaag is the candidate for the Christian Heritage Party.

CPAC’s Gail Dugas has the story from the riding of Simcoe-Grey.
