Vancouver South
It was one of the closest races in 2008. All indications are that 2011 will provide a repeat. The riding of Vancouver South pits former NDP premier and federal Liberal minister Ujjal Dosanjh against business owner Wai Young, the Conservative candidate. In 2008, only 20 votes separated Dosanjh from Young. Now, with a whiff of scandal surrounding Young, and the NDP surging in the polls, there could be a whole new dynamic in the race. Meena Wong, a community activist, is the first New Democrat candidate from the region who can speak Mandarin or Cantonese; she speaks both. Jean de Dieu Hakizamana is the Green candidate. Charles Boylan is running for the Marxist-Leninists.
