On November 26, voters in the riding of Victoria elect a new MP to replace the NDP's Denise Savoie who resigned in August, citing health reasons.
Murray Rankin, an environmental lawyer, is trying to extend the NDP's grip on the riding. Paul Summerville, former chief economist with RBC Capital, is attempting to improve the Liberal party's distant third-place finish in 2011. The Conservatives' hope rests with high-tech executive Dale Gann, and the Green party is confident that Elizabeth May's coattails (her riding, Saanich-Gulf Islands, is next door) will help elect Donald Galloway, a University of Victoria law professor. All four of the main parties' candidates are employees of the University of Victoria, in fact.
