Liberal incumbent and former MLA Kevin Lamoureux upset the NDP in the November 2010 by-election when he narrowly beat their candidate Kevin Chief. In what can be considered a NDP stronghold, Lamoureux’s win could be considered a surprise. This time around the NDP have nominated Rebecca Blaikie, the daughter of former long-time NDP MP Bill Blaikie. Three other candidates have also thrown their names into the race. Former Canadian Air Force Air Frame Technician John Harvie is representing the Green Party, Ann Matejicka, who worked as a parliamentary and communications advisor to a number of federal ministers is running for the Conservatives, and heavy machinery operator Frank Komarniski is the Communist Party’s candidate.
