In Committee From The House Of Commons

Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development

Federal Aboriginal Affairs Minister Bernard Valcourt speaks to committee members about Bill C-62, the Yale First Nation Final Agreement Act. This is the third and final agreement to be reached under the B.C. treaty process and marks the culmination of almost 20 years of discussion.

The agreement will provide the Yale First Nation with $10.7 million in a capital transfer and millions more in other funding, ownership and control of nearly 2,000 hectares of treaty settlement land, access to and control over natural resources, and fishing rights.

UPDATE: Bill C-62 received royal assent on June 19.
