Access to Information, Privacy and Ethics
Maryse Bertrand, a vice-president with the CBC, Canadian Media Guild representatives Marc-Philippe Laurin and Bob Carty and Professional Federation of Québec Journalists president Brian Myles express their opposition to a private member's bill (C-461) to amend the Access to Information Act as it relates to the public broadcaster. Brent Rathgeber's bill also calls for the salary disclosure of federal employees who earn more than $188,000 a year.
Liberal MP Scott Andrews also presents his motion to hold hearings on the $90,000 payment that Stephen Harper's then chief of staff Nigel Wright gave to embattled Senator Mike Duffy.
UPDATE: On June 5, the committee made major amendments to Bill C-461. Later that evening, Brent Rathgeber announced he had resigned from the Conservative caucus to sit as an Independent MP.
