In Committee From The House Of Commons

Status of Women:

The committee continues its study of legislation to update matrimonial property laws for individuals living on reserves. Bill S-2 would provide legal protection to ensure that assets are distributed equitably for couples in the event of a relationship breakdown or the death of a spouse or common-law partner.

David Langtry, acting chief commissioner of the Canadian Human Rights Commission, Kim Baird, former chief of the Tsawwassen First Nation, and Joan Jack, a councillor with the Berens River First Nation, discuss the status of women in First Nation communities.
