Aboriginal Peoples

Greg Rickford, parliamentary secretary to the minister of aboriginal affairs and northern development, discusses the Yale First Nation Final Agreement Act. The agreement will provide the Yale First Nation with $10.7 million in a capital transfer and millions more in other funding, ownership and control of nearly 2,000 hectares of treaty settlement land, access to and control over natural resources, and fishing rights. Jim Barkwell from the department of Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development also testifies.

Chief Norman Hope of the Yale First Nation discusses Bill C-62 during the second part of the meeting. Stó:lo Nation grand chief Joe Hall and chief negotiator Jean Teillet testify during the third part of the meeting.

Following the witness’ testimony, senators conduct their clause-by-clause consideration of the bill.
