Senators continue their review of a private member's bill (C-279) that aims to protect transgender Canadians from discrimination. New Democrat MP Randall Garrison's bill would amend the Canadian Human Rights Act and Criminal Code to prohibit discrimination on the basis of gender dentity and gender expression .

The following witnesses offer their views on the proposed legislation: Noa Mendelsohn Aviv (the Canadian Civil Liberties Association); Diane Watts (REAL Women of Canada); Canadian Bar Association representatives Rebecca J. Bromwich and Robert Peterson; Susheel Gupta (Canadian Human Rights Tribunal); Sara Davis Buechner (an individual); N. Nicole Nussbaum (Canadian Professional Association for Transgender Health); and Liberal Senator Grant Mitchell, sponsor of the bill in the Senate.

Committee members conduct clause-by-clause consideration in the last part of the meeting.
