The committee holds a rare public hearing to reconsider Senator Mike Duffy's housing expenses and residency claims. This committee had investigated the housing claims and expenses of Senators Duffy, Patrick Brazeau and Mac Harb, as well as the travel expenses claimed by Senator Pamela Wallin. Outside auditor Deloitte was also hired to examine the senators' expenses.
The controversy surrounding Senator Duffy intensified after it was revealed that his repayment of $90,000 in improper housing expenses was paid for by the Prime Minister's chief of staff Nigel Wright, who has since resigned.
