In Committee from the Senate of Canada

National Finance

Senators continue their review of certain measures contained in Bill C-45, the second budget implementation bill.

Angella MacEwen, a senior economist with the Canadian Labour Congress, expresses the congress' support of a proposal to temporarily suspend the Canada Employment Insurance Financing Board.

Corinne Pohlmann, vice president of national affairs for the Canadian Federation of Independent Business, discusses amendments to the Employment Insurance Act that would extend the Hiring Credit for Small Business.

In the second part of the meeting, committee members hear from one of the five other Senate committees that have also been examining portions of Bill C-45. Senators Dennis Dawson and Stephen Greene, the chair and deputy chair respectively of the Senate Committee on Transport and Communications, summarize the divisions that their committee studied.

UPDATE: Bill C-45 received royal assent on December 14.
