In Committee from the Senate of Canada

Transport and Communications

Robert Ballantyne of the Coalition of Rail Shippers / Canadian Industrial Transportation Association discusses Bill C-52. The proposed legislation aims to strengthen the rail freight service by giving shipping companies the right to a service agreement with railways. It will also create an arbitration process to establish an agreement when commercial negotiations fail.

Michael Bourque from the Railway Association of Canada, Michael Murphy of the Canadian Pacific Railway and Sean Finn from the Canadian National Railway Company testify during the second part of the meeting.

Following the witness’ testimony, senators conduct their clause-by-clause consideration of the bill.

UPDATE: Bill C-52 received royal assent on June 26.
