In Committee from the Senate of Canada

Transport and Communications

Assistant Privacy Commissioner Chantal Bernier discusses the privacy issues arising from proposed changes to the Customs Act that are found in the budget implementation bill. Her testimony, along with that of her colleague Carman Baggaley, conclude the committee's pre-study of certain divisions in Bill C-45.

The amendments involve the collection, use and disclosure of potentially sensitive personal information about passengers arriving in Canada.

UPDATE: Bill C-45 received royal assent on December 14.
