House of Commons Debates

2nd Session—33rd Parliament

Justice Minister Ray Hnatyshyn introduces the second reading of Bill C-94, to bring into force the 1985 Revised Statutes of Canada Act; there are speeches by Bob Kaplan, Marion Dewar, and Dave Nickerson. The bill quickly passes second reading, in-committee review, and third reading.

The House resumes its second reading of Bill C-54, a bill to amend the Criminal Code; participating in the debate are Don Boudria, Audrey McLaughlin, Jim Manly, Cyril Keeper, and Stan J. Hovdebo.

Canadian sovereignty in Arctic waters is the dominant topic during Question Period, with Pat Carney (Minister for International Trade) fielding questions on the subject. Jake Epp (Minister of National Health and Welfare) responds to inquiries about toxin-tainted shellfish.

The House begins and completes the second reading of Bill C-91, a bill to amend the Corporations and Labour Unions Returns Act, with speeches by Pierre H. Cadieux, Howard McCurdy, Lorne Greenaway (Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of State for Forestry and Mines), and Mr. Boudria.

Members resume their consideration of a private member’s motion by Aideen Nicholson calling for a royal commission to investigate organized crime in Canada; Mr. Hovdebo, Jim Hawkes, Russell MacLellan, and Mr. Keeper participate in the debate. Ms. Nicholson’s motion is lost on a recorded vote, along with an amendment to it by Mr. Kaplan.

Members proceed to vote on amendments to Bill C-87, the Customs Tariff Act, and the bill completes its report stage.

Totally agree. It's humiliation for Bob Rae to be in the same party with Justin, afflicted with the foot-in-the-mouth disease.

can't blame him from running away from Justin!
