On a designated opposition day, Nelson A. Riis introduces a motion calling on the government to fix its unemployment and job-creation policies; Barbara McDougall (Minister of State for Finance), Warren Allmand, Dan McKenzie (Parliamentary Secretary to Minister of Veterans Affairs), Jean Lapierre, George Minaker, David Orlikow, Simon de Jong, Pierre H. Vincent (Parliamentary Secretary to Minister of National Revenue), and Lloyd Axworthy speak. Question Period includes exchanges on the alleged misplacement of secret NATO documents by Robert Coates (Minister of National Defence); Mr. Coates later announces his resignation from Cabinet. There are also questions about Solicitor General Elmer MacKay’s alleged interference in an RCMP drug investigation of New Brunswick Premier Richard Hatfield.
