House of Commons Debates

1st Session—32nd Parliament

Speaker Jeanne Sauvé commemorates the sixty-fifth anniversary of the destruction by fire of the old House of Commons. In Question Period, the leading and dominant topic of discussion is the position and role of the British government in the Canadian Constitution. The House resumes its consideration in committee of the whole of Bill C-54, a bill to amend the statute law relating to income tax. Doug Neil introduces the second reading of Bill C-245, a bill to repeal the Prairie Farm Assistance Act; there are speeches by Stan J. Hovdebo, Alvin Hamilton, and Eugene F. Whelan (Minister of Agriculture).
