2nd Session—33rd Parliament

Tom Hockin (Minister of State for Finance) announces measures to regulate bank service charges; Jean-Robert Gauthier and John R. Rodriguez respond.

Members complete the second reading, review in committee of the whole, and third reading of Bill C-111, legislation to amend the National Housing Act and the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation Act; there are speeches by Shirley Martin (Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Public Works), Neil Young, and Jean-Claude Malépart.

Members then proceed with second reading, in-committee review, and third reading of Bill C-141, the Canada Agricultural Products Act; participating in the debate are Pierre Blais (Minister of State for Agriculture), Maurice Foster, Vic Althouse, and Don Boudria.

Question Period is dominated by inquiries for Justice Minister Ray Hnatyshyn on amendments, introduced by government backbenchers, to the government’s legislation on official languages (Bill C-72). Mr. Hockin is asked about government regulation of bank service charges.
