The House completes consideration in committee of the whole and third reading of Bill C-37, a bill to enact the Canadian Commercial Bank Financial Assistance Act; participants in the debate include Aideen Nicholson, Barbara McDougall (Minister of State for Finance), Nelson A. Riis, and Herb Gray. Sinclair Stevens (Minister of Regional Industrial Expansion) makes a statement on the subject of the importation of Japanese-made automobiles; Herb Gray, Steven W. Langdon, and others respond. Members resume debate on Bill C-27, a bill to amend several laws to comply with the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms; George Baker and Pauline Browes speak.

Édouard Desrosiers introduces a private member’s motion calling for the dissolution of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation and its replacement with a new broadcaster devoted to Canada’s cultural development; Mike Cassidy and Geoff Scott (Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Communications) participate in the discussion. The House is summoned to the Senate chamber to witness granting of the royal assent to several bills.
